The “Gold” represented the golden potato skin and the potential value of the newly named company. “Black” symbolized both the fertile, truly deep ebony black soil deposited by Ice Age glaciers and the Black Angus hide. Through our various Fresh Produce Programs (including Fruits of the City, Garden Gleaning, Harvest for the Hungry and Lost Harvest) we strive reduce food waste and increase the amount of fresh produce distributed within the hunger relief system.Our name Black Gold was adopted in 1965 when our family entered the registered Angus cattle business. The Food Group is an innovative hunger relief organization dedicated to serving the needs of our changing communities through the distribution and promotion of healthy foods to over 200 partner food shelves and meal programs. We focus on vegetables, fruits, and nutrient rich breads because hunger relief organizations often find it challenging to consistently provide fresh food options for their clients. Since March 2016 we have been working with co-ops, grocery stores, and farmers markets to re-distribute their unsalable foods to local hunger relief organizations. TC Food Justice is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Minneapolis. Through their Share Fresh Minnesota program excess harvest is collected from local farms and distributed to hunger relief organizations. With locations in Saint Paul and Golden Valley, MN, the nonprofit is a Feeding America food bank. ![]()
